Why US and Canadian buyers source suits from Turkey

US and Canadian buyers come to Turkey for shorter production times, tailoring quality and lower minimums than many large Asian factories offer. Our production typically takes 12-15 days, depending on quantity, model and fabric availability, and private label starts at 100 units per style.

That combination suits mid-sized retailers, online menswear brands and formalwear rental companies that want to test new styles without committing to thousands of units. You can reorder a best seller quickly instead of carrying large safety stock.

Mark Morente has produced men's suits in Istanbul for more than 20 years. We run ISO 9001 certified production with 1000+ suits per day of capacity, use OEKO-TEX Standard 100 fabrics, and design patterns in-house with CAD and 3D prototyping.

Turkey compared with typical Asian sourcing

Buyers usually weigh Turkey against large factories in Asia. Here is how the trade-offs often look, in general terms.

FactorMark Morente, IstanbulTypical large Asian factory
Minimum order100 units per style, or one stock lotOften much higher per style
Production timeTypically 12-15 daysOften longer, especially in peak season
ReordersFast repeat runs of proven stylesUsually planned far ahead
ShippingAir for speed, sea for volumeMostly sea
Unit priceQuoted per orderOften lower at very high volumes

If you order very large volumes of one basic style, Asian factories may cost less per unit. If you need smaller runs, more styles and faster reorders, Turkey usually works better.

Who we work with in North America

We work with businesses only. Typical customers in the US and Canada include:

  • Menswear retailers and boutique chains
  • Online menswear and direct-to-consumer brands
  • Formalwear and tuxedo rental companies
  • Wedding and prom suit retailers
  • Corporate and uniform buyers
  • Brands that want production under their own label (private label or OEM)

Rental companies often ask about our tuxedos. We make shawl and peak lapel tuxedos, dinner jackets and wedding suits, and can repeat the same models and fabrics for reorders, subject to fabric availability.

US and Canadian sizing

For made-to-order and private label production, everything is customizable, including US sizing. Stock lots come in EU sizes, which our size guide converts. Jackets are sized by chest in inches, usually from 36 to 54 and larger for big and tall, with short, regular and long lengths. Trousers are usually cut with a 6-inch drop, so a 40R jacket pairs with a 34 waist, unless you ask for a different drop.

Tell us your size curve and we build the size run around it. Our size guide shows conversions between US and EU sizes, and the big and tall range covers larger chest and waist sizes.

Labelling basics

Both countries require fibre content and dealer identification on clothing, and the rules differ. We sew in the labels you specify, so confirm the final text with your compliance team or customs broker.

United States

The FTC requires textile clothing covered by the Textile and Wool Acts to show fibre content, the country of origin and the identity of the manufacturer or dealer, which can be a company name or an RN number. A separate FTC rule, the Care Labeling Rule, requires care instructions to be permanently attached to clothing. Wool suits fall under the Wool Products Labeling Act as well.

Canada

Under Canada's Textile Labelling Act, as explained by the Competition Bureau, labels must show fibre content, with generic fibre names and percentages in both English and French, plus dealer identity. Dealer identity can be a name and postal address or a CA identification number. Products sold in Quebec can have additional language requirements.

For private label orders we add your brand label, size label, and fibre and care labels during production. Send us the artwork and text and we confirm before cutting.

Shipping to the US and Canada

Air freight is the usual choice for stock lots, samples and fast reorders. Sea freight in containers suits larger orders to East Coast, West Coast or Canadian ports. We deliver door-to-door or hand over to your forwarder, and quote shipping per destination.

Import duties on suits into the US and Canada depend on fabric, construction and the tariff classification, and US tariff rules have changed often in recent years. Work with a licensed customs broker to confirm the HTS or Canadian tariff code and the duty before you place the order. See our shipping page and how to order for the process.
