# How to source men's suits from Turkey

A practical step-by-step guide for retailers, wholesalers and brands buying men's suits from Turkish factories, from the first message to the delivered carton.

## The short answer

To source men's suits from Turkey, you shortlist two or three real manufacturers, send each one the same brief, compare samples and written quotes, agree payment and delivery terms, then check the goods before they ship. Most buyers can go from first contact to a delivered order in a few weeks if the brief is clear.

Turkey works well for suits because the country has a deep tailoring industry, short distances to Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Central Asia, and factories that accept mid-size orders. Below is the process we see buyers follow every week, written from the factory side.

## Step 1: Decide what you are actually buying

Before you contact any factory, decide which of these two routes fits your business. It changes the MOQ, the timeline and the price.

| Route | What it means | Typical minimum | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ready stock in lots | You buy existing catalog models in size-run lots | One lot (for example 6 suits, sizes 46-56) | Shops testing a model, fast restocking |
| Made to order / private label | The factory produces your chosen fabric, fit and branding | Often 100 units per style | Brands, chains, wholesalers with steady volume |

If you only need one or two suits for yourself, a manufacturer is the wrong place to buy. Factories like ours work with businesses only, and the smallest order is one lot.

## Step 2: Find a real manufacturer, not a middleman

A real suit manufacturer can tell you its daily capacity, show the production floor, and explain who makes the patterns. Traders and agents can be useful, but you should know which one you are talking to.

Good ways to find factories:

- Search for "men's suit manufacturer Turkey" and go past the first page of ads.
- Check Instagram and LinkedIn for factory content, not only finished product photos.
- Visit trade fairs in Istanbul if your volume justifies the trip.
- Ask your freight forwarder. Forwarders in Istanbul know which factories ship regularly.

Questions that separate factories from resellers:

- Do you have in-house pattern making and sampling?
- What is your daily output?
- Which certifications do you hold, and can you send copies?
- Can I video call from the production floor?

For example, at Mark Morente we have produced suits for more than 20 years, with in-house CAD pattern design, sampling and capacity of over 1,000 suits a day. See [About us](/about-us) for the details.

## Step 3: Send one clear brief

The fastest way to get comparable quotes is to send every factory the same short brief. Include:

1. Product type: 2-piece, 3-piece, tuxedo, double-breasted.
2. Fit: slim, modern or classic.
3. Fabric: composition and weight if you know it, or a reference photo.
4. Colours and quantity per colour.
5. Size range and size breakdown (for example EU 46-56).
6. Branding: own labels, lining, buttons, packaging.
7. Destination country and preferred shipping (air or sea).
8. Target delivery date.

A vague message like "send me your price list" usually gets a vague answer. Factories that make to order quote per model, fabric and quantity.

## Step 4: Order and judge samples

Always see a sample before a production order. Pay for samples if you need to; it is a small cost compared with a bad container.

When the sample arrives, check:

- **Shoulders and collar:** the collar should sit flat on the neck, no gap or roll.
- **Fusing:** no bubbles on the chest or lapels after steaming.
- **Seams:** straight, even stitch density, no loose threads at pockets.
- **Lining:** enough ease so it does not pull when the wearer moves.
- **Buttons and buttonholes:** clean, firmly sewn.
- **Measurements:** compare against the factory's size chart, not just the label.

Keep the approved sample. It becomes the standard the bulk order is checked against.

## Step 5: Compare quotes properly

Two quotes with different numbers often describe different suits. Make sure each quote states fabric composition, construction, lining, trims, packing and the delivery term (EXW, FOB or delivered). Our guide on [suit manufacturing cost](/guides/suit-manufacturing-cost) explains how to read a quote line by line.

## Step 6: Agree payment terms

A common practice in garment manufacturing is a deposit at order confirmation and the balance before shipment. Deposit levels vary by factory, order size and relationship. For repeat buyers, terms often relax over time.

Most Turkish exporters invoice in USD or EUR and accept international bank transfer. Larger buyers sometimes use a letter of credit. Whatever you agree, get it in writing on the proforma invoice: unit price, quantity, delivery term, payment schedule and lead time.

## Step 7: Production and lead time

Once the order and fabric are confirmed, production starts. Lead times in Turkey are short compared with Asia. At our factory, production typically takes 12-15 days, depending on quantity, model and fabric availability. Every order is quoted with its own lead time.

Ask for photos or a short video during production, especially on a first order. A good factory sends them without being chased.

## Step 8: Quality control before shipment

Check the goods before they leave the factory, not after they arrive. You can visit, send a third-party inspector, or ask the factory for a detailed pre-shipment report.

Pre-shipment checklist:

- Random cartons opened, not only the ones the factory picks.
- Measurements checked on several sizes against the approved size chart.
- Colour matched to the approved sample under daylight.
- Labels, care labels and hangtags correct for your market.
- Packing as agreed: garment bags, hangers, folded or hanging.
- Carton marks and quantities match the packing list.

## Step 9: Shipping and documents

Air freight is faster and suits smaller or urgent orders. Sea freight is cheaper per unit for large volumes. Road freight by truck is common to Europe and Central Asia. Many buyers use their own forwarder in Istanbul; others ask the factory to ship door-to-door.

Standard documents are the commercial invoice, packing list and, where needed, a certificate of origin or movement certificate. Duty rates depend on your country, so confirm them with your customs broker before you order. Our [shipping page](/shipping) covers the options.

## Common mistakes to avoid

- Approving a sample and then changing the fabric for bulk.
- Ordering a size range that does not match your customers.
- Comparing an EXW price with a delivered price.
- Skipping pre-shipment checks on the first order.
- Paying a full order to a company you have never spoken to on video.

## FAQ

### What is the minimum order for suits from a Turkish manufacturer?

It depends on the route. Ready-stock models are often sold in size-run lots, so one lot can be as small as six suits. Made-to-order and private label production usually starts around 100 units per style.

### How long does it take to get suits made in Turkey?

Production itself often takes two to three weeks once fabric and details are confirmed. Add time for sampling and shipping. At our factory production is typically 12-15 days, quoted per order.

### Do Turkish suit factories sell to individuals?

Most manufacturers, including us, work with businesses only. If you need a suit for your own wedding, a local tailor or retailer is the better choice.

### Can I visit the factory before ordering?

Yes, and for larger orders it is a good idea. If you cannot travel, ask for a live video walk-through of the production floor.
